Agamidae – Dragons

The Agamidae, known as dragons to the public, have captured most of the tropic and subtropic regions of the Old World. Their needs are so different that it is virtually impossible to provide any kind of universal guidance to successful husbandry and breeding. In addition there are many species that haven't been described yet, one reason is that their natural habitats are virtually inaccessible, for example deep in the south-east Asian rainforests.

Some species, among them bearded dragons (Pogona) from Australia, or the genus Uromastyx from Africa, are common in the hobby, though, and can be kept easily when some basic parameters are considered. Others, for example those from mountainous rainforest regions, still keep herpers around the globe puzzled. This family is part of the iguana-likes (Iguania). All dragons are oviparous.

Agamidae – Agamen
